FAMILY TRADITION

About Us

Tradition

The name of our bakery isn’t a coincidence, but a tribute to Angelo’s grandmother, the founder. Peppina was the heart of the family, the grandmother who prepared Sunday lunch for all 22 of her grandchildren and was always ready to welcome everyone into her home.

And amidst the chaos of a large family, it was she who taught and passed on to Angelo the art of making fresh pasta and bread. Choosing the name “Peppina” means conveying to all our customers the sense of welcome and warmth typical of Sicily.

Our History

The Flavors of Home

The Beginning

Peppina’s story begins in Sicily, where Angelo was born. When he moved to Dorset, England, he brought with him a desire to eat like at home: food that wasn’t just top-quality, but had soul. He was looking for something different from the usual commercial offerings, and when he couldn’t find anything, he decided to turn that lack into an opportunity.

THE PROGRESS

Cooking together

The spark for this project stems from childhood memories, when Angelo spent his days in the family’s countryside: four acres of land with a breathtaking view of the sea. It was right there, within the walls of the large kitchen, that little Angelo would play and mess around with his grandmother Peppina, his aunts, and his cousins, learning the secrets of dough making and the expert use of the wood-fired oven. Those unmistakable aromas, typical of the Mediterranean diet, remained etched in his memory and are now the beating heart of his creations.

In March 2021, this passion came to life with the opening of Peppina, probably the smallest bakery in the UK, housed in just 13 square meters of space, housing both the workshop and the shop. Today, through Peppina, Angelo reimagines classic Sicilian recipes with new, creative twists, always using simple, authentic ingredients. In addition to artisanal bread in true Italian style, our offering boasts a wide selection of cakes, fragrant cannoli, arancini, traditional Sicilian rosticceria, filled focaccia, fresh pasta, and delicatessen items, bringing the warmth of Sicily directly to Dorset.

As part of the agricultural industry, we fully depend on our surrounding, just as it depends on us. That’s why we grow our produce organically and sustainably. Over the past decades the carbon footprint of the factory Chocolate has been positive, which is something we’re really proud of.
